Roundtable discussions with the office of state Senator Daniel Biss, state Representatives Laura Fine and Lou Lang, and small business experts open to all small businesses; chance for entrepreneurs to meet with lawmakers and discuss the state's budget and tax issues

CHICAGO–Small Business Majority will partner with state Senator Daniel Biss, state Representatives Laura Fine and Lou Lang, the Glenview Chamber of Commerce and the Skokie Chamber of Commerce to host two roundtable events next week discussing Illinois’ budget challenges and their impact on the state’s small businesses. These interactive events offer small business owners a unique opportunity to meet with lawmakers and make their voices heard on budget and tax issues.

The first event will take place on September 7 at the office of state Representative Laura Fine in Glenview, and will be sponsored by the office of state Senator Daniel Biss, the office of state Representative Laura Fine and the Glenview Chamber of Commerce. The second event will take place on September 8 at the Niles Township Government Building in Skokie, and will be sponsored by the office of state Senator Daniel Biss, the office of state Representative Lou Lang and the Skokie Chamber of Commerce.

“Being a small business owner is tough, and Illinois’ recent budget challenges have made it tougher,” said Representative Lang. “Entrepreneurs deserve a voice on our tax and budget issues, and I’m looking forward to this opportunity to have a discussion with small business owners about their concerns and priorities.”

These roundtables will also consider key tax and revenue issues impacting small businesses including corporate tax loopholes, student loan relief for entrepreneurs and proposals to allow small businesses to take a standard deduction.

“I’m committed to making sure small businesses have the tools they need to grow and create jobs,” said Representative Fine. “At this roundtable event, I’m looking forward to speaking with entrepreneurs and hearing firsthand what types of tax and budget policies they think will help foster business growth.”

“Small Business Majority’s polling finds that most small business owners think there’s an uneven playing field for small businesses when it comes to tax policies,” said Geri Aglipay, Illinois Outreach Manager for Small Business Majority. “These events aim to give small business owners a bigger voice on this issue and explore solutions to our tax and budget challenges that can benefit entrepreneurs.”

The free events are open to all small business owners. The event on September 7 begins at 8:00 a.m. and the event on September 8 begins at 8:15 a.m. Space at both events is limited to 15 people, so early registration is encouraged. Small business owners can register for the Skokie event here and the Glenview event here.
