MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Expert Available to Speak About Harmful Impacts of HB 2 on North Carolina Small Businesses

For Immediate Release:
Friday, July 1, 2016

Chris Armstrong, Director of Partnerships & Government Affairs for Small Business Majority, along with local small business owners, available to speak about current negotiations to amend HB 2 and small business support for repealing the law

WHAT: Small business expert Chris Armstrong, Director of Partnerships & Government Affairs for Small Business Majority, is available to speak to media by phone about the General Assembly’s negotiations to amend HB 2 and why small businesses strongly support nondiscrimination policies.

Small Business Majority’s opinion polling found eight in 10 entrepreneurs across the country support protecting LGBT individuals against discrimination in public accommodations, such as restaurants, hotels and other businesses open to the public. What’s more, the majority of North Carolina small businesses support laws protecting gay and transgender people from discrimination in employment and believe nondiscrimination policies help attract and retain talent.

“Small business owners support policies that create a safe and inclusive business environment because they believe they’re good for business, they help companies attract and retain talented employees and because it’s the right thing to do,” said Armstrong. “We’ve heard from small business owners throughout the state that they believe HB 2 is bad for business and that the backlash against HB 2 is hurting the small business community. It’s time for state lawmakers to repeal HB 2 in full and promote a more inclusive business environment in North Carolina that will bolster small businesses.”

WHEN/WHERE: Chris Armstrong and small business owners are available to speak to media by phone.
