(Based in New York City with travel to selected states Maine through Pennsylvania)
Small Business Majority, based in Sausalito, CA, with offices in Washington DC, New York, Sacramento, Colorado, Ohio, and Missouri, is a small business advocacy organization founded and run by small business owners to represent the nation’s 28 million small business owners and self-employed individuals. Description/Duties
1. Executing state-based outreach plan. Assessing and modifying plan to make more effective.
Execute a plan to educate and inform small businesses and the self-employed about the Affordable Care Act (the new healthcare law).
Seek feedback from state partners, business groups, and small business owners about additional tools and resources Small Business Majority can provide.
Seek to implement suggestions from state partners and business groups on how we Small Business Majority can be more helpful and relevant.
2. Identifying state-based partners, quickly build, maintain relationships, and serve as liaison
Identify, develop relationship, and serve as liaison with local and state partners that have the capacity and willingness to work as partners of Small Business Majority.
Nurture and develop relationship between Small Business Majority and state based partners, particularly maintain communications with their leadership to assure that the network is building local capacity.
Work with all interested state partners ideally business organizations (Chambers of Commerce, Rotary Clubs, Urban League, Kiwanis, etc.) to engage their organization and members in events pertinent to small business issues.
3. Educating & outreaching to business groups while building Small Business Owner Network
Present information to state and national business groups, healthcare advocacy groups, and at appropriate public venues (conference, etc.) on how the Affordable Care Act effects small businesses and the self employed
Inform small business owners on how they can take action to affect state policy decisions, especially as it relates to the Affordable Care Act.
Work with state organizations to identify individual small business owners willing to serve as spokespeople on key healthcare issues for media, press conferences, and government events.
In close partnership with Small Business Majority’s communications team, work to provide relevant information to small business owners via social media, a monthly newsletter and as significant events arise.
Planning, facilitating, and organizing events including conference call briefings on specific issues related to small business owners
Participate in panels, press conferences, events, and possible testify at legislative hearings.
4. Record keeping with database and outreach archives
Work with Small Business Majority’s data team to ensure that appropriate information is entered into system
Keep small business owner and contact data base is up to date
Ensure that small business network is being consistently grown
Keep detailed records of outreach efforts and work in conjunction with development manager to present information for funder reports
Qualifications
Available to do FREQUENT travel
At least one cycle doing field work on a campaign or for a state/national field program
Healthcare knowledge beneficial, but not required
Organizing or coordination experience with strong follow up
Ability to quickly build relationship with all types of people
Track record with creative ability to build and complete action plan
Self-starter who has ability to make cold calls and network
Enjoys staying updated on and involved with healthcare policy

Note: This position is funded through a Covered California grant and is funded through December, 2014. However, depending on additional funding this position could likely continue as full-time for an indefinite period of time.
Description/Duties
1. Identify business organization partners in Northern California, quickly build and maintain relationships, and serve as liaison.
Identify, develop relationships and serve as liaison with business organizations (Chambers of Commerce, Small Business Development Centers, Downtown Partnerships, Rotary Clubs, Urban League, etc.) that have the capacity and willingness to work as partners with Small Business Majority (SBM) to educate small business owners and self-employed about the Affordable Care Act (ACA – the new healthcare law) and potentially other small business issues
Work with these business organizations to disseminate information, organize events, gather feedback, etc.
2. Educate & conduct outreach to business groups
Plan, facilitate, and organize several events including, face-to-face events, webinars and conference call briefings on specific issues related to small business owners
Present information to local business groups, and appropriate public venues (conferences, etc.) on how the ACA affects small businesses and the self employed
Participate in panels, press conferences and other events.
Inform small business owners on how they can take action to affect state policy decisions, especially as it relates to the Affordable Care Act and the implementation of the California Health Benefit Exchange.
In close partnership with SBM’s Communications team, provide relevant information to small business owners via social media, a monthly newsletter, as significant events arise
3. Present Small Business Majority as a resource to business organizations
Seek feedback from business groups and small business owners about additional tools and resources SBM can provide
Implement suggestions from business groups and owners on how SBM can be more helpful and relevant
4. Build and activate Small Business Owners Network
Use creative techniques to help grow the Small Business Owner Network
In partnership with SBM’s Network Coordinator, identify individual small business owners willing to serve as spokespeople on key small business issues for media, press conferences and government events
5. Maintain information in database and outreach archives
Work with SBM’s data team to ensure that appropriate information is entered into system (business organization partners, small business owners)
Ensure that small business network is consistently growing
Keep detailed records of outreach efforts and work in conjunction with SBM’s Grant Writer to present information for funder reports
Develop weekly report on outreach progress in Northern California
Qualifications
Proven ability (at least one cycle) doing field work on a campaign or for a state/national/local field program
Excellent public speaking skills
Bi-lingual Spanish/English preferred, but not required
Strong organizing and coordination experience, including detailed follow up
Ability to quickly build relationships with all types of people
Work independently, communicating with CA Director in Sacramento
Track record of ability to build and complete action plan
Self starter who has ability to make cold calls and network
Desire to “think outside the box” and be flexible to accommodate unexpected developments and changing priorities
Strong entrepreneurial spirit
Interest in staying updated on healthcare and other small business policies and comfort in talking about those polices; however, this is NOT a policy position; it is a field/organizing position
At least 2 years of work experience
Frequent travel required in and around Northern California. Some travel may be required to other parts of California.
